warrenton music scene??

so I live down in warrenton, and I recently heard there's an open mic wednesdays over at the "club" in town -- Fantastico. so last night, I went down there with my kid sister to see what it was like, see what kind of local talent there is. turns out, none at all. or, rather, one person -- the organizer for this open mic. he was the only person who played (and he did a very nice job). overall kind of a bust, though. had a beer until the bartender started giving me grief for dropping out of college. she said I'd be working at the "five and dime" for the rest of my life... crazy hippie.

here's what I've been thinking about today...

people come into your life and leave their mark on you, then fade back out without ever explaining what they did to you or why. people I called friends or more once, people who know my secrets, my weaknesses and strengths, who watched me grow over a period of time, however short or long, took what they could from me in whatever time I gave them, then disappeared. today I'm wondering how rachel, rich, john, and katie d. are doing...

maybe later on tonight I'll write a song about it. or maybe I'll just take care of some of the other things I've been meaning to do, like burning off sample CDs to give out at shows and re-recording vocal tracks.
